![]() ![]() Note that this is is again just the first version. Later i made a "black-and-white" map by turning all of the landmass black and just copying the outline into a ready maptable, and put in some mountains: That, however, is not on its own a map-worthy due to teh colors, so i used it in gimp as backdrop, putting it on overlay so that the shape and color only serve as background a bit. the script requires i think 6 different bitmaps- biome, elevation, temperature, water level and something else- and they were well past 100mb if i recall correctly Note: the original PNG of DF was 4112x4112px, so they are HUGE. Here is the raw output of that thing for my map: ![]() I made multiple versions of the map i got from it, eventually settling on just getting the silhouette of the world i got, and boy it turned nice. the end result for me was a bit wonky with colors (some colder areas turned bluish, and there were lot of grey forests when the biome map colored them grey but put forest textures in anyway) pngs, which that program then compiles into a map. Using DF for making world map? can be done, and believe me, you get amazing results.īasically you can import DF world maps as. The thing is, you won't really get any cool or notable land features, as it all more or less tries to simulate true geography you'll never get an impossibly large expanse of flat blue grassland, or rocky white mountain ranges that detach from the ground and spiral off into the heavens. That is, the world populated with Elves in the woods, Men in the fields, and Dwarves in the mountain realms, and keeps the same parameters with it being very hot in the south, and very cold in the north, so you're kinda restricted to those qualifiers. On the other hand, the game is grim as shit and will depress you beyond belief, so unless you're going for a west-marches style of world with savage things all about the woods, then I'd just go with world gen by what personally feels right.Īlso, with DF your world is really inherent to the game. ![]() The world gen has quite a bit of depth but the stories that are spun and the monsters that attack your lands really give some cool ideas.
